EditPlus Text Editor 3.12 has all the features one would expect in a hard-working HTML editor. Those comfortable with old school hand coding will enjoy the clean, lightweight style, reminiscent of Notepad and Notepad ++. However, the few extras EditPlus Text Editor 3.12 does have are dedicated to time savers, such as cliptext.

The cliptext provided by EditPlus is pre-written HTML (3.2 & 4.0), CSS (1 & 2), XHTML 1.0, ANSI and control characters that can be dropped in any line for quicker coding. The benefit for beginning users is the ability to see what a complete, correct line of code should look like. Auto-completion provides another quick way to code, as does the ability to record up to ten macros at a time.

Ease of Use:

Intermediate and advanced coders will have no problem using the EditPlus Text Editor 3.12 user interface. Everything is neatly laid out and easy to find. Beginners to coding and HTML editors may find it a little confusing at first, but the in-program manual will quickly help you find your way around the program. Tooltips (explanations pop up when you mouse over an icon) make it easy to understand and memorize what each icon does.

Help & Support:

Looking at the website, EditPlus seems a little lackluster in the help and support area. There is no phone number, newsletter, printed manual or product training. The in-program manual is completely pointed towards how to use EditPlus, with no additional features. However, the program does have an extensive Wiki dedicated to “how-to’s”, as well as a user group with over 3,000 members for sharing files, website critiques and other resources.

Summary:

If you’re unfamiliar with HTML and HTML editors and aren’t the type to just start coding no matter the results, EditPlus Text Editor 3.12 is not for you. This particular HTML editor is specifically for those really interested in learning coding, intermediate coders and advanced developers. However, with a little time and patience, individuals with even the most basic understanding of HTML will find EditPlus Text Editor 3.12 to be a great beginning. The user based syntax highlighting and other offered files on the website are a perfect way to keep the program lightweight, while maintaining a high amount of functionality.
